Ocasio-Cortez’s Joke Catches Mulgrew’s Attention

1 min read

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democrat who surprised everyone by beating Rep. Joseph Crowley in a double-digit victory last month, is a fan of Star Trek: Voyager and Kate Mulgrew.

While joking around with a poster on Twitter, Ocasio-Cortez told that poster that “My identity has been exposed. I am actually Captain Catherine Janeway of the USS Voyager.”

The tweet caught the attention of Kate Mulgrew, who replied “Captain Kathryn Janeway of the USS Voyager reporting to @Ocasio2018 – I’m very interested in assisting your campaign and taking it to warp speed at RED ALERT!”

Ocasio-Cortez responded by praising Mulgrew. “As a kid, my parents let me stay up late to watch Captain Janeway lead her crew home through desperate straits, while lost in the galaxy,” she said.

“Couldn’t have had a better example of a leader for these times. Thank you @TheKateMulgrew!”
