New Zealand Mint Releases Trek Notes and Figurine

1 min read

Looking for that special gift for a TOS fan? The New Zealand Mint is offering silver coin notes and a Captain Kirk figurine.

The notes, which cost $39.00 each, feature the seven main TOS characters: Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Chekov, Sulu, and Scotty. Also included with the Kirk note is a Star Trek Original Series Collector’s Album (hardcover), which has a page for each of the seven notes.

The metal notes are 999 fine silver, weight 5 grams, and are worth $1.00 in Niue (a small South Pacific nation near Tonga and American Samoa), whose people are citizens of New Zealand. Being made of silver, they will of course be worth more than the face value. Fifty thousand of these coins will be minted. The obverse of the note “features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy” of Queen Elizabeth II.

A pure silver miniature of James T. Kirk is also being sold. Designed by 3D master sculptor Alejandro Pereira Ezcurra, only one thousand of these figurines will be created.

10 cm high (slightly less than four inches), the miniature is on a stand which “features a metal plate confirming the name, series number, unique production number, and the New Zealand Mint authentication.” The miniature is “encased in black velvet inside a high-quality Star Trek branded case.” The James T. Kirk miniature will set you back $500.00 U.S. and will be available starting this Friday.
