William Shatner is one of one-hundred-and-twenty-five new appointments to the Order of Canada.
“Created in 1967, the Order of Canada, [one of Canada’s] highest civilian honors, recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. Close to seven thousand people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order. Their contributions are varied, yet they have all enriched the lives of others and have taken to heart the motto of the Order: Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam (‘They desire a better country’).’
The member list includes four Companions (C.C.), thirty-five Officers (O.C.), and eight-six Members (C.M.)
Shatner, born in Montréal, Quebec and now residing in Los Angeles, California, received the O.C. for “his iconic contributions to popular culture spanning theater, television and film, and for his philanthropic support of causes related to health care, the environment and the well-being of children.”
