Rapp: Honored To Play A Gay Man On Trek

1 min read

Anthony Rapp will be taking on the role of Lieutenant Stamets in Star Trek: Discovery and the actor spoke briefly about that role while promoting his latest film, bwoy.

“I can say that I’m in [Star Trek: Discovery], and that I’m really excited about it,” he said. “I pretty much am not allowed to say anything else. I don’t even know if I’m allowed to say that. It’s so profoundly under wraps, which I completely understand and actually endorse. But I’m really excited.

As a gay man himself, Rapp is pleased to be playing the first recurring gay character in Star Trek. “I’m honored,” he said. “I’m also honored to be a part of a piece of work that’s part of the cultural pantheon. It’s kind of crazy that I get to be a part of something that means so much to so many people. It meant a lot to me, too. I’m thrilled and I’m honored to be the vehicle for this aspect of the story that’s being told.”
