Saldana Politics Backlash

2 min read

Star trek Beyond‘s Zöe Saldana gave her opinion regarding the Presidential election and her opinion was not popular with some, who took to Twitter to let their feelings be known.

Saldana believes that Hollywood’s treatment of Donald Trump made him an underdog to some, which helped him in the election. “We got cocky and became arrogant and we also became bullies,” said Saldana. “We were trying to single out a man for all these things he was doing wrong and that created empathy in a big group of people in America that felt bad for him and that are believing in his promises.”

“I’m learning from [the Trump win] with a lot of humility,” Saldana added. “If we have people continue to be strong and educate ourselves and stand by equal rights and treat everyone with respect, we don’t go back to those times.”

Twitter users spoke up and they were not happy with Saldana’s comments. “Zöe Saldana is the same person who said she couldn’t complain about racism in Hollywood because her president is Black,” said writer Michael Arceneaux.

“I’m not mad at Zöe Saldana’s comments because I get where she’s coming from,” said another user. “But this colorblind kumbaya BS she believes about Trump is sad.”

“Zöe Saldana, so ur defending Donald Trump now, ur the exact opposite of what Nina Simone represented & this is why no 1 wanted u 2 play her,” said another Twitter user.

“Zöe doesn’t understand bullying is when the powerful take advantage of the powerless,” said another.

But not all the feedback was negative. “I’m guessing the people who are angry with Zöe Saldana are the same people who didn’t bother to read the article,” said another poster. “Her point is right.”

“I don’t see what Zöe Saldana said that was so bad,” said another Twitter poster. “She wasn’t supporting him. People are reaching.”
