1 min read

Asteroid 391257 has been named in honor of a Star Trek: The Next Generation actor.

NASA‘s Ron Baalke made the announcement via Twitter. “Asteroid 391257 has been named in honor of Wil Wheaton,” he said. “Congratulations Wil!”

391257WilWheaton is located near the constellation Canis Minor.

Wheaton isn’t the only Trek actor to have an asteroid named after him. Other actors so honored include George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, and Gene Roddenberry.

“As soon as it gets dark here, I’m going to walk out into my backyard, look up into the sky, just a little above Sirius, and know that, even though I can’t see it with my naked eye, it’s out there, and it’s named after me,” said Wheaton.
