Yesterday, a special screening of Star Trek Beyond took place at the White House.
Michelle Obama hosted the event which included in-person appearances of Chris Pine, Karl Urban and Simon Pegg.
The screening was “a joint initiative with the Joining Forces, an organization founded in 2011 by Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden. Joining Forces calls “all Americans to rally around service members, veterans, and their families and support them through wellness, education, and employment opportunities. Joining Forces works hand in hand with the public and private sector to ensure that service members, veterans, and their families have the tools they need to succeed throughout their lives.”
Michelle Obama gave a speech, which can be read in its entirety here, where she welcomed the actors and explained the purpose of Joining Forces. She ended the speech with a bit of humor by saying “may the Force be with you!”
After the event, Urban posted on his Twitter account, saying that it was an “absolute pleasure” to meet Michelle Obama, and to show Star Trek Beyond for the Joining Forces initiative. He posted a picture taken from the White House.
