Shatner Wants Trek Fiftieth Anniversary Show

1 min read

William Shatner would like to be part of a Star Trek anniversary show, and is trying to convince TPTB to let him do one.

But so far, the actor has had no luck in his endeavor. “I’m attempting to sell a fiftieth anniversary show, but so far I’ve had very little luck,” he said. “Maybe because Paramount‘s going to do their own – but I don’t know how they can do their own without me. I’ve never been contacted.

“I’ve been actively trying to do a Fiftieth anniversary show … We had a big company say: ‘What about a musical or a music variety show?’ That got some traction – but nothing’s come of it yet.”

Shatner’s most recent project is A Christmas Horror Story. In A Christmas Horror Story, he narrates “four interwoven stories, including murder, possession, and a zombie outbreak at Santa’s workshop.”

  1. I’d love to see a 50th-anniversary show, but not a musical, especially not if Shatner will try to sing. The 5th movie proved that singing is NOT among Kirk’s many talents. :-)nnDeclaiming song lyrics at the top of his lungs is, of course, different. 😀

  2. The 25th Anniversary Show was a bizarre conjunction of mainstream hollywood glitz and Trek fandom (not to mention the inimitable musical stylings of William Shatner). I wouldn’t vote for a repeat of that effort.

  3. If they do a show, they’ll probably feel obligated to include every incarnation of Star Trek, when actually it’s significant because it’s the anniversary of TOS. It will probably be more marketing tool than celebration. They’re (Paramount) likely not going to celebrate TOS above all else.

  4. The Trek documentaries Shatner has produced have been pretty good, so I would trust him to produce a good anniversary special. nBut who suggested the “musical variety show”? That shit went out in the 1970s and good riddance.nEDIT: But I suppose if they did a Whedon-esque musical history of Trek, that might work…

  5. The 30th Anniversary show on UPN was an interesting bit of pomp and circumstance. Something belongs on CBS asa special, definitely.
