Wheaton To Introduce Beer

Will Wheaton, who brews his own beer, will be introducing a new beer at the Ottawa ComicCon this weekend.

The beer to be introduced is called HefeWheaton and it is based on a Bavarian Hefewiezen style of wheat beer.

HefeWheaton was created by Wheaton and Ottawa’s Clocktower Brew Pub.

“I think it’s really fun to share something that I am super passionate about,” said Wheaton. “People are always asking me, ‘How can I get your home brew?’ The reality is, the liquor laws make that impossible. This is really exciting to me; it’s an opportunity to work together with a craft brewery using a recipe I helped design.”

“I have a real passion for brewing and craft brewers, and I share in that passion,” Wheaton added. “It’s really rewarding to be able to bring something to one of these events that is totally different.”

HefeWheaton will feature “juicy, fruity notes,” said Wheaton. “I wanted to make a beer that was accessible to lots of people that wouldn’t be off-putting and intimidating.”

The Ottawa ComicCon will be held May 8-10 at the EY Centre in Ottawa. Joining Wheaton at the convention will be Jonathan Frakes, Walter Koenig, Malcolm McDowell, Nichelle Nichols, and Marina Sirtis.

  1. Neat.

I’m from the Ottawa region, but so far I’ve always skipped over ComicCon. I went to two Star Trek conventions in the area when TNG was still on the air (or was it DS9 by then…?) back when it was still known as CreationCon, I believe. At least that’s the name that stuck in my head.

I do remember that Star Trek was the focus back then. Even as a somewhat hardcore Trek nerd, I’ve always thought the whole comic book culture was just way too nerdy for me, and frankly I’ve always failed to see the connection between sci-fi and comic books. And yes, I pretty much hate every so-called “super-hero” comic book-based movie ever made.

That being said…who knows, maybe I’ll still go this weekend.
