Star Trek: Enterprise‘s Scott Bakula recently took on the role of Lynn on HBO’s Looking.

Looking is about a group of friends living in San Francisco. It’s currently airing its second season.

Bakula plays Lynn on the series, a bit of a jaded character who has seen it all. “…He’s a survivor,” said Bakula. “He was there when the AIDS crisis began. He lost his friends. He lost the love of his life basically. He became, I think, relatively pragmatic about life and kind of matter-of-fact about it, and I think he gave and gave and gave a lot of his soul energy away, and I think he saw something in Murray [Bartlett‘s] character…Dom, that reminded him of the past, of his real, true love and at the same time, there’s a part of him that can only go so far anymore, if that makes sense.”

Lynn is in a relationship with Dom Bartlett, but there are problems as Dom wants more than Lynn can give.

“It’s not that he’s dead inside,” said Bakula. “He’s still got a lot of passion and a lot of life, but he’s mature, and he’s seen a lot, and a lot of what he’s seen wasn’t good and yet, that community that went through that and survived that time and stood proud and strong and tall and held people as they died and all of those things, they’re amazing, amazing people. I think of him in that light, and it was an honor to get to play someone like him.”

If Looking is picked up for a third season, will Bakula return? “When I first got this, I called right to Andrew [Haigh, exec producer/director],” said Bakula. “I said, ‘Andrew, listen. This is what’s going on. I don’t know if you want me back or not. I don’t know if the show gets picked up, but I just want you to know that I want to come back, and CBS will let me, so it all worked out great.”

Looking airs Sundays on HBO at 10 PM.

  1. Bakula is great in this. ‘Looking’ itself os a bit of an aquired taste, but Bakula’s brief appearances always perk up the procedings.
