Free Comic Book Day is fast approaching and Star Trek: The Next Generation’s LeVar Burton is helping to get the word out about the event.

Burton can be seen in a new video promoting Free Comic Book Day.

“My love of the written word originated with comics,” said Burton.

“I’m an army brat. My father was in the military and when we were stationed in Germany, comic books were a treasured item that we first read, and then traded with one another. They also kept us connected to the popular culture back home.”

On Free Comic Book Day, which falls on Saturday, May 3, this year, readers can go to their local comic book store, and choose from one of sixty free comic books.

“It’s a great way to try something new,” said Burton.

  1. Damn I love that man’s commitment. English-language literature shall not die on his watch.
