Star Trek into Darkness‘ Benedict Cumberbatch is in negotiations for a starring role in The Lost City of Z.
The Lost City of Z is based on a bestselling book by David Grann.
If he signs for the role, Cumberbatch would be playing Percy Fawcett, an explorer who went to Brazil in the 1920s to map the Amazonian jungle and who discovered a mythical city that he named the Lost City of Z. During a second trip to Brazil with his son and another companion, the trio vanished, never to be seen again. Fawcett’s disappearance has remained a mystery, with several expeditions mounted in the 20th century to find out what happened to him.
The Lost City of Z will be produced by Plan B’s Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Anthony Katagas; and will be directed by James Gray.
