Urban: The Appeal Of Dredd

1 min read

For Karl Urban, finding out what makes Judge Dredd tick and how Dredd reacts to internal conflict when he begins to question his role is what makes the character exciting and interesting.

Judge Dredd is a law enforcer in the metropolis of Mega-City One, who is given the power of judge, jury and executioner in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Dredd 3D is based on the 2000 AD Judge Dredd comic.

“I’m really interested in exploring those facets of doubt that creep into the character, especially later on in his career where he starts to question the big lie,” said Urban. “To me, that’s really fertile and interesting ground.”

“Conflict is always interesting,” said Urban, “especially internal conflict. So to be kind of charged with upholding a system that you’re starting to doubt seriously is pretty intriguing.”
