Reza Badiyi, director of several Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes, passed away this weekend at the age of 81 due to medical complications.

Badiyi directed episodes of many television classics, including The Doris Day Show, Mission: Impossible, Mannix, Baretta, The Rockford Files, Hawaii Five-O, and the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Deep Space Nine episodes directed by Badiyi include five from the third and fourth seasons of the show: Civil Defense, Past Tense Part 1, Life Support, Visionary and Paradise Lost.

Over almost six decades, Badiyi directed over 430 television episodes as well as several films.

“He was a proud Iranian-American and was very involved in the community,” said publicist Bita Milanian. “He was a true Iranian at heart and could recite Iranian poetry like no other. The community is mourning tremendously for his loss.”

Badiyi is survived by his wife Tania, four children and two grandchildren.
