Star Trek XI Best Picture Oscar Snub

The list of ten movies nominated for Best Picture for this year’s Oscars does not include Star Trek XI.

To the surprise of many, who if not expecting a Star Trek XI Best Picture win expected the movie to be on the list of potential Best Pictures, Star Trek XI has to be content with its other four nominations for Oscars in other categories.

The Best Picture list includes: Avatar, Blind Side (which many feel replaced Star Trek XI on the list), District 9, An Education, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Precious: based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, A Serious Man, Up, and Up in the Air.

Star Trek XI was nominated for the Oscar in the following four categories:


  • Il Divo-Aldo Signoretti, Vittorio Soldano
  • Star Trek-Barney Burman, Mindy Hall, Joel Harlow
  • The Young Victoria-Jon Henry Gordon, Jenny Shircore

Sound Editing:

  • Avatar-Christopher Boyes, Gwendolyn Yates Whittle
  • The Hurt Locker-Paul N.J. Ottosson
  • Inglourious Basterds-Wylie Stateman
  • Star Trek-Mark Stoeckinger, Alan Rankin

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards will air on ABC at 8 P.M. on Sunday, March 7.
