Gene Roddenberry‘s son Rod Roddenberry is auctioning off items once belonging to his parents to raise money for the people of Haiti.
Like so many, Rod’s heart was touched by the devastation caused by the 7.0 earthquake in Haiti. “Here’s the deal, there are a lot of people suffering in Haiti right now and we can all do something about it,” he said.
“I have a number of items that belonged to my father and mother that I consider valuable in one way or another,” said Roddenberry. “I’m sure there are many of you other there that would share my sentiments. I am prepared to part with b/c I know they’ll go to a good home and I think we’ll all feel great if we can give to those who need it. Therefore, this will be an auction where all proceeds go to the Haiti relief. To be clear, I nor anyone else at Roddenberry will be profiting from this Auction. In addition, at the end of the auction, I will match the total amount from all items.”
Star Trek-related items include: Lwaxana Troi dresses, expired Star Trek: The Next Generation credit cards owned by Gene and Majel Barrett Roddenberry, a Star Trek XI DVD release swag bag, Majel Barrett’s computer script for Star Trek: The Next Generation: A Final Unity, and a Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 3 wall plaque owned by Gene Roddenberry. In addition, there are other items once owned by Roddenberry, including books, golf clubs, cameras and photos.
The auction is currently running and will end on at 11:59 PM PST on January 29. To bid on an item, simply place an amount (US Dollars) in the comments section of a particular item (on the Facebook page.) New items will be added daily up until the end of the auction.
The proceeds from the auction will go to Haitianhero.com.
