Quinto: Stepping Away From Trek For A While

1 min read

Star Trek XI‘s Zachary Quinto will be away from the world of Star Trek and sci-fi for a few years.

Fans hoping to see Quinto at conventions or other Trek functions will be disappointed by his latest comments to Wired.com in a telephone interview recently. “I’m stepping away from Star Trek for at least two years, no movies, no conventions, no anything for a while.”

Part of the reason Quinto did his voice work on Star Trek: Online was to give back to the fans, knowing that he would be stepping away for a while. “I did this game to make an investment in the fan base,” he said.

In Star Trek: Online, Quinto voiced a holographic doctor, the Emergency Medical Hologram Mark VI (pictured below.) New players of Star Trek: Online will also hear his voice as they progress through the game’s opening tutorial. Quinto tried the tutorial himself. “I did exactly what I told myself to do and I survived,” he said. “I passed the mission with flying colors.”

Quinto will be working on other non-sci-fi projects and hopes that his sci-fi fans will be interested in them as well as in Star Trek or other sci-fi interests. “I want to invite [my fans] along with me on my journey, which is going to take them out of their comfort zone and into other areas and other styles of storytelling,” he said.
