Takei Offers Shatner Neutral Turf

2 min read

George Takei is willing to end the feud with William Shatner which began after Shatner didn’t get an invite to the Takei-Altman nuptials last year.

Although Takei declined to appear on Shatner’s Raw Nerve to discuss the feud between the two original series stars, he is willing to meet Shatner on what he calls “neutral ground,” Howard Stern’s radio show.

“As you probably know, I’m a recurring guest on the Howard Stern radio show,” said Takei. “And Howard brought it up so we discussed that, so Howard said ‘So how would you feel having a discussion with Bill mediated by me, Howard Stern?’ I said, ‘That’s fine. Because it’s on this turf here, not Bill’s turf and if Bill accepts, I would applaud his balls if he accepts and joins me in that kind of discussion with Howard mediating as an interlocutor, I said, ‘I’d be happy to do that.'”

Takei maintains that he sent an invite to Shatner, but that no one was surprised when he failed to appear at the wedding. “Bill is an energetic guy who likes to be in the spotlight,” explained Takei. “However, strangely, when any of us, the rest of us invite him to things we are doing; throwing a party or one of us are getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or anything that we want to celebrate – birthdays, we’re there to celebrate, congratulate and enjoy each other, except Bill. Bill’s never shown up. It’s very strange because he enjoys the limelight and yet he doesn’t like the limelight to be shared with colleagues from Star Trek.”
