'Star Trek: Phase II' Releases New Teaser

A sneak peak of the forthcoming Blood and Fire episode of Star Trek: Phase II, was offered today when the beginning teaser of the episode became available for fans to download at the Phase II website.

As reported by Star Trek: Phase II, a short video from the first part of Blood and Fire came online today. The preview was almost four minutes in length and featured a battle scene between the Enterprise and the Klingons.

Blood and Fire was originally written by David Gerrold (The Trouble With Tribbles) for Star Trek: The Next Generation. However, the script was deemed too controversial at the time to be produced for The Next Generation and was shelved.

The storyline concerns "a plague so horrible that Starfleet had issued standing orders not to attempt rescue of any infected ship but to destroy it immediately." Another controversial aspect of the time was the depiction of a gay couple. According to Phase II Producer James Cawley, he had a condition for keeping the couple in the Phase II version. "If you're going to show them as a couple," he said, "it has to be real. There was one line in the 'Next Generation' episode, 'So, how long have you two been together?' and that was as much as there was in 1987. There's a lot more now."

According to TrekMovie.com, Blood and Fire Part I is due to be released by Halloween, with the second part to follow within several months. In 2009, Phase II will release Enemy: Starfleet which will feature a newly refitted Enterprise.

Phase II is also offering a first look at the new refitted Enterprise to be seen in Enemy: Starfleet next year. Two photos of the newly refitted Enterprise can be seen here.
