Alexander Siddig (Bashir) has joined the cast of Doomsday, a thriller about a deadly virus, which begins shooting next month in South Africa and the U.K.

Siddig's official fan site Sid City announced the casting of the Deep Space Nine actor in the role of Hatcher, who is the head of the British government. The film is written and directed by Neil Marshall, whose The Descent was acclaimed as a terrifying horror film.

Doomsday's plot concerns the spread of a lethal virus that kills hundreds of thousands of people and results in a brutal quarantine. When the disease resurfaces, a group of specialists is sent into the quarantine zone in search of a cure.

The film will also star Bob Hoskins, an Academy Award nominee for Mona Lisa, and Rhona Mitra, who appeared as Tara Wilson on many episodes of The Practice and Boston Legal with William Shatner (Captain Kirk). Other actors attached to the project include The Day After Tomorrow's Simon, Adrian Lester, and Equilibrium's Father, Sean Pertwee. Filming commences on February 9th.

Siddig can currently be seen on FOX's 24, where he plays Hamir Al-Assad. Preliminary information on Doomsday is available at both Sid City and the Internet Movie Database
