Hello World!

I think this country is going mad. Either that or someone Really has it in for Britain.

Er.. come to think of it, it isn't too hard to think of someone with reason to hate us...

But I digress.

Just when we thought it was safe to go out into the countryside, there is apparently a new outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Lancashire. How worrying.

It's very worrying for personal reasons, because I'm off to Blackpool in two months time with some friends for the Voyager: The Return Convention. I'm already highly excited. By the Icon's Coffee Pot, just to be in the same town as the Earthly Incarnation of Our Icon, Kate Mulgrew is going to be marvelous.

Another reason the country appears to be going insane, are the race riots in Oldham, near Manchester. It's frightening.

I've also exercised my X Files paranoia side, by reading about Echelon Network which apparently, is spying on my email.

Well, I certainly hope all these secret agents are enjoying reading all these requests for when repeat showings of 'Endgame' will air (I'm British, I have no idea!), requests to get involved in squabbles or fix problems at the Trek BBS and a highly amusing conversation about Captain Janeway's hair. I'm sure that's a worthy use of my hard-earned tax £s.

Perhaps it's Spring Feaver. Whatever it is, I wish things would settle down and get back to normal.

Trek Two Years Ago

Below are a selection of headlines from May 28th 1999:

  • New Voyager Rumours

With hindsight, these rumours that appeared online two years ago, we can safely say were completely false. Of course, not being one to ever pass up an opportunity to make Christian groan at himself for publishing the things, here they are in full for your (and mine) amusement.

    • The first episode for next season on Voyager has been written. Of course it is the exciting conclusion to last season's 'Equinox.' There are a lot of major changes that will take place including the death of a certain EMH that has been around for 5 seasons. But don't worry there is going to be a new EMH in town - he'll be bald, funny and missing a certain oath.

    • The second episode is being written as we speak and deals with Voyager being taken apart.

    • Season six starts filming on June 21. All the cast will be back!

    • As for the crew getting home, the buzz is that it will probably happen right before Christmas. Voyager may also have a Holiday cliff-hanger. That means the first part will air in mid-December and concluded in mid-January 2000!!!

Lord Spock "Paramount Insider:" Thanks for the laugh.

  • 'Birth Of The Federation' Gaming News

In the rush of post-E3 Star Trek games hype, Jeff Holzhauer producer of 'Birth of The Federation' was scheduled to attend a live chat with fans. Christian commented that he hoped Holzhauer would remember to turn up to this event, unlike the previously scheduled chat with the producer.

GameSpot also published their review of the game, which is still available to read here for those who are feeling nostalgic.

More topics from that day can be found in our April 1999 Archive.

Happy Birthday!

Today is the 59th birthday of Kevin Conway, who made an appearance on the TNG episode 'Rightful Heir' as 'Kahless the Unforgettable,' the long-lost founder of the Klingon empire.
