'Star Trek Online' Game To Change

New ownership spells changes for Star Trek Online according to anonymous sources.

As reported at shacknews, Perpetual, who is developing the multi-player online game Star Trek Online has new ownership and changes are expected although it does not appear that work on the online role-playing game will cease.

Star Trek Online may be retargeted for a "more casual" experience and a broader (non-hardcore gaming) audience. It is expected that this means that subscription feels may be avoided in favor of charging real money for optional in-game items, a practice already used by various Korean multiplayer online games.

It is reported that a number of Perpetual employees have left the company due to dissatisfaction with the new direction that the game appears to be taking.
