Paramount Home Entertainment will next month launch a competition to unearth the the ultimate Star Trek expert.

Fans from eight countries will answer a variety of Star Trek questions over a five month period from August 1 to December 31 by logging on to StarTrekGuru.com. Each week contestants will have to answer 10 multiple choice questions on the web site, and once the answers have been entered, they cannot be changed.

Although 2002's competition only involved the United Kingdom and Germany, this year fans from the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Australia will also be able to participate. The top Star Trek expert from each of the eight countries will battle it out for the title of "International Star Trek Guru 2003".

The first person to answer all 10 questions each week will win a prize, with the overall winner earning the grand prize. While this year's prize has yet to be announced, the 2002 winner scored tickets to the Star Trek Nemesis premiere in London and won a VIP tour of the Enterprise sets.

"Star Trek has gone from being one of TV's greatest series to being a worldwide phenomenon," said Barney Hands of Paramount Home Entertainment. "Star Trek has such an incredible history with a dedicated cult following of millions, particularly within the UK and we believe that the UK fans will be incredibly tough contenders for International title. If last year's event is anything to go by, Star Trek Guru 2003 will add a whole new dimension of enjoyment to all Trekkers around the world."

All competitors must be over the age of 18. Head over to StarTrekGuru.com to register.
