Sid City, the official fan site for Alexander Siddig (Julian Bashir), is reporting that the former DS9 actor has just signed on to star in the new Fantasy/SF film 'Reign of Fire'.

The film will start shooting in Ireland on the 12th of February, and will also star Christian Bale, Matthew McConaughey and Izabella Scorupco. It will be directed by Rob Bowman, who has also directed several episodes of 'Star Trek: The Next Generation', including 'Q Who' and 'Elementary, Dear Data'.

Sid City and UpcomingMovies.com describes 'Reign of Fire' as set in a post-apocalyptic future England, where a British 'Fire Chief' (played by Bale) and an American militia leader (McCoaughey) must team up to fight off a brood of fire-breathing dragons that have emerged, seeking to return to dominance over man after a centuries-long rest. The Fire Chief leads a clan of survivors, who together with the American set off to hunt down the Queen of the Dragons. Scorupco will play a pilot who is the Fire Chief's love interest, while it has not yet been announced which role Siddig will play.

This isn't the first project for Siddig after the end of 'Deep Space Nine'. Last year he already appeared in 'Vertical Limit' (which also featured Izabella Scorupco), playing a Pakistani mountain guide. In addition, he has been linked to a TV pilot for a series on Queen Boadicea, the Roman warrior who led an attack on Britain in the year 60, but that project has been pushed back to this Fall.
