Stewart Undergoes Successful Heart Procedure

Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard) has undergone an angioplasty procedure to widen an artery, causing him to miss a planned appearance this weekend in Toronto.

An Associated Press article reprinted in the Miami Herald and elsewhere noted that 64-year-old Stewart was recovering from the heart surgery, which uses a small balloon to widen a blood vessel.

Stewart's publicist said that when he went for an annual physical examination on Monday, he was found to have restricted blood flow and recommended the procedure to avoid future damage. Stewart is expected to return to work on the movie The Game of Their Lives next week, as well as voiceovers for FOX TV's animated American Dad.

However, Stewart will miss the SFX 2004 convention in Canada this weekend while he is recuperating.
