The official Star Trek site announced yesterday that Michael Westmore has joined the staff of Series V as Makeup Supervisor, making this the fourth Trek series he will be working on.

Westmore joined the Star Trek franchise in 1986, when The Next Generation became the first series he ever worked on in the capacity of makeup supervisor. Since then, he performed the same role for Deep Space Nine and Voyager, as well as the three TNG movies.

The makeup artist has always been enthusiastic about the prospect of working on Series V, though he might not stay for the show's entire run. "I'd like to get started with it at least," Westmore said in an interview published in the September 2000 issue of Star Trek Monthly. "I don't know if I would retire somewhere along the way or not, but I would sure love to get it going."

Over his many years with Star Trek, Westmore has been nominated for and won several important awards. 'Star Trek: First Contact' gained him an Oscar nomination, while he won the Saturn Award for 'Star Trek: Insurrection.' His Star Trek work was nominated for an Emmy in five out of the past six years, and won once for both Deep Space Nine and Voyager.

Other projects Westmore has worked on include the MacGyver television series as well as several Sylvester Stallone pictures, such as 'Rocky' and 'First Blood.' Last year, he contributed to a book on Star Trek make-up, 'Aliens and Artifacts.'
