Michael Kukielka just sent in the following report about the live webcast with Leonard Nimoy that took place yesterday:

I attended the InsideDVD live broadcast about 1/2 hour earlier than it was supposed to have started. I'm not sure if it began before my arrival or not, but when I first accessed it, the trailer for First Contact was playing and was followed by the live broadcast. I'm not sure if anything came before that. Perhaps others might fill in the gaps if there are any.

The host referred to himself as Tenacious D, apparently him and actor Jack Black (from the movie 'High Fidelity') have some kind of entertainment franchise since they mentioned they are filming a movie and people questioned them about their cancelled TV show? Although Jack Black stayed only to sing the lyrics to the 'Star Trek' theme, Tenacious D was the host. And co-hosting with him was the infamous Gabriel (didn't get his last name) from Trekkies, the 17 year old Trekkie who knows everything about the franchise one person could possibly know. He was an excellent host and asked very good questions from Nimoy and divulged quite a bit of interesting 'Star Trek' trivia.

With that said, some interesting news that came from the event was that the gentleman at Paramount, who apparently is involved with the 'Star Trek' DVDs, revealed that 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn' will be released in July. But the really big news came when he said that TMP will be released around the end of the year or the beginning of next. He said that it's a very big project and there will be a lot of extras on the disc. When asked about the details of the disc, he refused to give details.

Later on, a gentleman brought the original Klingon Battle Cruiser model from TOS to the event. It was the model owned by Gene Rodenberry and the owner was a bit anxious about the guest hosts trying to hold it. The owner joked about the cost of the item.

Concluding the event was an interview with Leonard Nimoy in which several questions were asked. The only news worth noting here is that Nimoy and De Lancie are working on a sequel to 'Spock vs Q'" which he hopes will be ready for a reading at the Chicago convention coming up in June.

Nimoy also said that he supports the idea of a prequel series.

Last year, Paramount was the subject of some criticism, as they had not taken the opportunity to celebrate the 20th anniversary of 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' with a special DVD release. It's great to now see them planning a big release for the film - a lot of extra footage exists that was cut, and I'm sure they'd be able to include lots of background info.

The webcast was hosted by InsideDVD, and was held while Leonard Nimoy (Spock) made an appearance at the Virgin Megastore in West Hollywood to promote the release of the 'Star Trek 3: The Search For Spock' DVD. Thanks go out to Michael Kukielka for this!
