UPN Developing New Sci-Fi Series

Enterprise network UPN is currently developing a new science fiction series about an alien assault on Earth.

Entitled Juggernaut, the series will centre around "a group of warriors assembled by the United Nations to fight alien creatures invading Earth," trade paper Variety reported. The concept was devised by Emmy-winning producer Robert Halmi (Gulliver's Travels, Dinotopia) and Lindy DeKoven, former NBC vice-president for movies and mini-series.

The pilot episode will be written by Scott Nimerfro, who most recently served as story editor on UPN's supernatural series Special Unit 2. In addition to his other genre work on The Outer Limits and Tales From The Crypt, Nimerfro also has two Trek connections, having served as associate producer on 'Trekkies' and co-story writer of the Star Trek: Voyager episode 'Jetrel.'

Halmi's Hallmark Entertainment and DeKoven's new production company, DeKoven Entertainment, will produce the series if it is given the greenlight, with 'Jason and the Argonauts' helmer Nick Willing set to direct the pilot. Only a small minority of projects in development at television networks move forward to the pilot stage, while even fewer are picked up as a series.
