Hello World!

After nearly five years as a news writer for TrekToday, I am going to be leaving that position in a few weeks. It's been a lot of fun, but it's also been a long time, and now that my children are older, I have other things to which I really need to be attending. I also feel like I'm probably not the best person to be covering Star Trek movie-related news. For me, the original series cast can never be replaced and I don't particularly want to see the franchise try. The actors all seem competent and enthusiastic, but I'm quite content to remember Kirk, Spock, McCoy, et al as I always have, through long stretches when the original series was off the air and then out of the movies. I wish Chris Pine all the best, but he might as well be James Cawley so far as I'm concerned...neither one is William Shatner.

I will continue to review The Next Generation - the only series The Trek Nation does not currently have reviewed in full in its database. A funny thing has happened since I started rewatching that series. Though I always considered myself a passionate original series fan, with a deep and abiding love for Deep Space Nine and a brief crush on Voyager, I never loved TNG quite the same way. I love every one of the characters and the actors who play them, and I admire the development of the storylines, but it's only now, rewatching what are widely considered to be the show's least impressive seasons, that I've really come to appreciate just how wonderful the series is.

Maybe, after a long time, I'll feel that way about the movie currently in production too. But really, I'm an old-school Trekkie. For me, there is only one true Star Trek...no bloody A, B, C or D. And I want to walk away while I'm still a fan.
