The announcement of a preview of the upcoming Star Trek Online MMORPG in the Star Trek HD-DVD collection in November is just the latest of several developments in Star Trek gaming.

Earlier this week, the rental service GameFly posted the cover art and release date for the new game Star Trek: Conquest, coming from Bethesda Softworks for the Wii in November as well.

Bethesda currently holds the license for Star Trek computer and video games, having released Legacy, Tactical Assault and Encounters for various gaming platforms.

Star Trek Online, which is coming from Perpetual Entertainment, has made its development blog available. Story lead Mike Stemmle, a "rabid Trekkie" in his own words, explains in a current entry how the World Machine software creates gaming landscapes from maps.

And the French Star Trek Online site has announced that three European communities, STO-JOL (France), STOnet (UK) and STO.Info (Germany) are having a contest along with Perpetual for a 2D/3D creation of a scene within the Star Trek universe. Several Perpetual artists will choose among submitted images.
