Hello World!

Three additional items of evidence for the conspiracy of the universe at large against me:

1. The sore throat mentioned yesterday has gotten worse. In the morning I actually had the feeling it had gone away, but the second I got out of bed I was hit by a coughing fit which convinced me otherwise. As a result my diet has now changed so that the main ingredient I'm currently living on is some kind of disgusting type of sweets called Strepsil, which are supposed to taste like lemon but instead taste so bitter you'd think the company creating it used the left-overs from last year's harvest to create the taste. The Strepsils haven't yet done much against my coughing, but I suppose than once all my teeth have been eaten away by the sugar undoubtedly present in the things at least my air circulation will have improved somewhat. Thank heaven for small favours.

2. In this room, I have two ceiling lights, one with a nice soft yellow colour and the other simply providing hard white light. In the evening, before starting the TrekToday update, I usually want to switch off the white light to have a nicer atmosphere. However, I invariably hit the wrong button when trying to turn off the light, causing the entire room to be coloured just by the harsh white light. Of course, instead of first turning on the yellow light and then turning off the white light, I always manage to first get the entire room pitch black. You'd think I'd at least be able to keep two buttons sitting next to each other apart, but apparently not.

3. The internet connection here, which was again spotty this evening. Maybe I should finally get that new cell phone I've been planning to buy for months now, so that in case of a failing connection I can at least use my cell phone to connect to the internet - the Nokia 8850 supports an infrared connection, which my laptop also has (at least when it's not being repaired), so I'd be able to get online via that. Unfortunately the current GSM technology only allows transfer speeds of something like 9.6Kbps, but the newer UMTS technology is probably at least a year away. Though with my luck they'd probably move up the introduction with ten months the exact day I bought the 8850.

4. Bonus reason! The Strepsils (see 1.) just ran out, meaning I am now sucking on something called Bentasil. Let me tell you that both the 'sucking' and the 'il(l)' part in the title now take on surprising extra meaning.

Cough.

Groan.
