According to a report by Josef Adalian at Variety, Voyager writer Kenneth Biller just closed a new development deal with Paramount Network Television, officially making him executive producer on 'Star Trek: Voyager'.

The development deal comes in the form of a multi-year contract, calling for Biller to develop and produce drama series for Paramount, as well as remaining on Voyager for its final season. Under a previous such deal with Paramount, Biller already developed developed a Fox drama pilot that didn't get picked up for series as well as a UPN telefilm called 'The Last Man On Planet Earth'.

According to Biller, who has also worked on 'The X-Files' whatever new projects he will develop, they will likely be outside the sci-fi genre. "After six years of doing this, I'm looking forward to doing something more contemporary … something that doesn't have phasers and transporters, as much as I love phasers and transporters."

The Variety article also mentions that production on Voyager is scheduled to wrap on the 9th of April, so any project Biller would develop would likely not make it to the air until January 2001.

More on this, including a quote from Paramount's Gary Hart on Biller's abilities, can be found in the full article. Thanks go out to Cinescape for the lead!
