From Monday October 1st, TNN is set to give Trek fans a real treat. A week-long Next Generation marathon will be kicked off by a special documentary exploring the franchise.

Titled 'American Loves.... Star Trek' the documentary will be presented by Jonathan Frakes (William Riker). It will provide the gateway to 'Next Gen on TNN: The Five Day Mission' a week long airing of Next Generation episodes from Monday to Friday.

'America Loves... Star Trek' is set to explore the Trek franchise; from its humble beginnings as a series that almost never made it on the air that was cancelled after three seasons, to 35 years later and five television series, nine movies and a plethora of merchandise. It will look at how the series has become the longest-running and most successful franchise in television history.

The special will also trace the influence and impact the series has on world society through the ways it helps to explain political climates, inspires scientists to create new technology and lessons it teaches about tolerance and diversity. It will mix film and episode clips with interviews from cast members, producers, experts and fans. Interviewees will include William Shatner (James T. Kirk), Rick Berman (Executive Producer), Kate Mulgrew (Kathryn Janeway), Michael Dorn (Worf), Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) and Dr. Mae Jameson the first African-American woman astronaut in space.

The week-long TNG marathon schedule is available online here at TNN. Alternatively, a fan produced copy is available here for download.

'America Loves... Star Trek' will be shown on TNN on Monday October 1st at 7:00 p.m ET/PT.
