Blalock: I Am T'Pol

A brown uniform, wig and a pair of pointy ears are all it takes to transform Jolene Blalock (T'Pol) into the NX-01's resident Vulcan, but for the actress it's much more than just a disguise.

"It's really cool. Once I'm in the outfit, I am T'Pol," Blalock told TV Guide Online. "It takes about two hours to get into full costume," she said, dubbing her key Vulcan attributes "Satanic pointy ears."

Blalock explained T'Pol's character and motivations. "She's 65 years old, so she's older than the rest of the crew," she said. "She is feline in movement. She is diplomatic with her words. And she does not look at humans condescendingly, though she is a superior race, so it may seem that way. She's just learning about human nature and the positives of feeling emotion."

Despite her enthusiasm for the role, Blalock very nearly missed the chance to follow in the footsteps of Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and Tim Russ (Tuvok). "I passed on the [series] three times without reading the script," she said. "Had I passed on this, it would've been the dumbest move of my life. Talk about regrets! I'm so fortunate to be chosen for this part."
