TMP Director's Cut Profiled At Comic-Con

Robert Wise presented new footage from his new Director's Cut of 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' at last weekend's San Diego Comic Con.

In total, there are ninety shots that have been altered for the two-disc DVD set, according to Bill Hunt at The Digital Bits, who attended the presentation. Twenty percent of the shots are new material that were not included in the original release of the film. The others have been digitally cleaned and recomposited.

The majority of the new sound effects added to the DVD were originally meant to be included in the film, but were discarded because of the rush to complete it on time. For the DVD release, the soundtrack has been mixed into Dolby Digital 5.1 channel surround sound.

In other Trek DVD news, DVD Times reported that the Region 2 release of Voyager shouldn't be expected until 2002 at the earliest. The site's source also mentioned that Paramount is already considering their options for a DVD release of Enterprise. Please note that this has not been officially confirmed by Paramount and should be treated as any rumour from an unofficial source.

The original 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' report can be found here at the Digital Bits, while the DVD Times news can be found here. Thanks to Tim Haxton and Andrew Pryce-Jones for this!
