In addition to playing Spock, Ben Tolpin is directing Enemy Starfleet, the newest Star Trek Phase II film.

As reported by PressRepublican.com, when Phase II producer James Cawley called him, Tolpin thought it was a joke. "I thought I was on Candid Camera," said Tolpin. "He said 'Will you play Spock?' I said 'Are you kidding me?' And here I am."

Tolpin accepted the role because, "I saw it as a chance to play an iconic character," he said. "It fulfilled a lot of small fantasies for me. Plus, when would I ever get to play Spock again?"

In addition to playing the pointy-eared Vulcan, Tolpin is directing the latest episode, Enemy Starfleet, in which guest star Barbara Luna (Marlena Moreau, Mirror, Mirror) steals a Federation starship and romances James T. Kirk. A professional director, he felt that "We could notch up the performances of the actors. And they've pulled together."
