Jeri Ryan's Former Husband To Abandon Senate Bid

The Associated Press is claiming that Jack Ryan, the former husband of Star Trek: Voyager star Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine), will abandon his campaign for election to the U.S. Senate.

Yahoo! reported via the AP that sources close to Ryan said that the Illinois Republican would drop out of the Senate race after the public disclosure of the couple's divorce records stirred controversy. A formal announcement was expected within hours.

Both Jack and Jeri Ryan had requested that the divorce records remain sealed to protect their young son. Jeri Ryan had previously expressed concern about potential issues with stalkers as well. On Thursday, a Los Angeles judge ordered some of the sealed records from the 1999 divorce to be opened for public scrutiny.

Earlier this week Jeri Ryan issued a statement, published in The Chicago Tribune, expressing her support for her ex-husband. "Jack is a good man, a loving father, and he shares a strong bond with our son. I wish him all the best, both in his life and career. I have no doubt that he will make an excellent senator."

More news on Jack Ryan's withdrawal from the senate race is available at USA Today.
