German convention organizer FedCon plans to host its first US convention in Dallas, Texas next year.

StarTrek.com reported that the 16-year-old organization run by Dirk Bartholoma has teamed with TrekUnited's Tim Brazeal to host an event next June 13-15, 2008. Stars including Jonathan Frakes (Riker), Connor Trinneer (Tucker) and John Billingsley (Phlox) are on the guest list.

German FedCon emcee Marc B. Lee will take on the same role for FedCon USA. "I've always been pushing the conventions in Europe to the fans here in the States, because it's something they've never seen before," he said. "We just want to give them an eyeful of what's different than your typical convention here." Among those differences are spectacular opening and closing ceremonies with stunts and light shows, plus weekend-long involvement from the guests.

"We're not here to be the competition. We're just here to be an alternative," Lee added. "There are so many great conventions here in this country, but this is an experiment for us, to bring our style of conventioneering here and then let the fans be the judges of whether they like it or not."

Brazeal said that Dallas was chosen because of its proximity to several major cities and that the organizers were hoping for attendance of at least 1000 people at a venue that could serve 3000.
