Hello World!

Much as I was tempted to complain sorely about my computer again (it's on the blink, bloody thing. Mind you, this is certainly nothing unusual), I've decided to talk about something else. or, at least, complain about something else.

Huntsmen are a type of spider. A *big* *hairy* type of spider, commonly found in this part of Western Australia, and, for all I know, the rest of Australia. I am one of the worlds greatest arachnophobes. So, imagine my rather large dose of panic when I, having admittedly a very late breakfast, espied the biggest huntsman I've seen in recent memory, virtually covering the entire wall-clock near my head. To give you an impression of the size of this thing, when it was *dead* and all curled up - you know how spiders go - it covered almost an entire saucer. Now, huntsmen aren't actually venomous, thank goodness, but they can give you a nasty nip and have been known to *jump*. Needless to say I haven't been the in kitchen for the rest of the day thus far.

I could go on at length about the various other nastys inhabiting Australia, particularly those that crawl around on 8 legs and make me sick, but I'll save the various horror stories I know for a later day and leave you instead with a report I heard on the radio this morning that a surfer has been taken by a shark somewhere on the East Coast.

Corrections

Several people have written in noting that our current poll, we've (or, more accuratly, Christian) made the mistake of listing "The Trouble With Tribbles" as a TNG episode, when it is, of course, a TOS one. This situation will be rectified as soon as I work out how to edit the poll options.
