Comedy Central has announced its next Comedy Central Roast recipient will be none other than William Shatner (James T. Kirk).

The show is inspired by the Friars Club's legendary roasts. A roast is an event in which an individual is subject to publicly bearing insults, praise, outlandish true and untrue stories, and heartwarming tributes. It is seen as a great honor to be roasted, as the individual is surrounded by friends, fans, and well-wishers, who can receive some of the same treatment as well during the course of the evening.

The Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner will be taped in Los Angeles this August and will air on Sunday, August 20 at 10:00 p.m. The roast, just like all the others, promises to be brutal.

"It takes a real man to follow Pamela Anderson into the Roast pit and William Shatner is truly a hero among men," said Elizabeth Porter, senior vice president, specials and talent for Comedy Central. "By the end of this year's Roast, Shatner may wish he was in a galaxy far, far away."

In other news, Shatner has also been warranted the honor of being inducted into the Television Academy’s Hall of Fame. The Academy honors a lifetime of excellence and is a special recognition for those who have made significant contributions that will leave an indelible mark on the television business, according to its chairman.

"This year's inductees have each helped shape our industry and serve as inspiration for everyone involved in our business," said Dick Askin, Chairman of the Television Academy. "It is an honor to recognize their careers and we are pleased to welcome them into our Hall of Fame.''
