'Quantum Leap' Revival Moving Closer?

After years of online rumours and whispers, the idea of a Quantum Leap TV reunion movie came a step closer yesterday.

TV Guide reported that Universal is "exploring" possibilities of a series reunion movie for TV. Universal is the studio that produced Quantum Leap, the show which shot Scott Bakula to stardom in the 1990s.

At the start of January, series creator Donald P. Bellisario spoke about his own interest in reviving the show. "In the back of my mind I had always hoped that I could get that one going again somehow," he told Tv Guide. "[But] Universal, who truly owns the rights to it, has never shown an interest." TV Guide's sources suggest that this is about to change.

Scott Bakula has also been reported to be highly interested in reviving the popular series. Earlier this month, he told how he originally approached Paramount with the idea for more Quantum Leap before the role of Archer on Enterprise arose (story).

Any deal to involve Bakula in a revival of Quantum Leap would have to take into his account his Enterprise contract. Filming work on such a telefilm would presumably have to take place when the Trek series is on Summer hiatus.

The original report can be found here at TV Guide.
