New UPN Comedies To Debut In March

UPN yesterday announced it will premiere the new comedies As If and The Random Years in March, despite rumours the network was less than impressed with its mid-season lineup.

The two half-hour comedy series will debut Tuesday March 5 at 9:00pm and 9:30pm, respectively, Zap2it reported.

Roswell, which normally occupies the timeslot, will return with new episodes in late April or early May. This will allow the new series to take advantage of a strong lead-in from Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

As If is based on the British series of the same name, often described as a 'teen Sex and the City.' The American version will trace the lives and loves of six twentysomethings living in Los Angeles. Emily Corrie, who also appeared in the British show, will star alongside actors from Felicity and Dawson's Creek.

Set in New York, The Random Years centres on three male flatmates who have known each other all their lives. The half-hour series stars Boy Meets World actor Will Friedle.

It was recently suggested that both As If and The Random Years might not even make it to air, after reports UPN's new management was less than enamoured with the new series (story). However, with Roswell's declining ratings over the past season, the network has obviously decided to try out something fresh in its Tuesday timeslot, one of television's most competitive.

The original report can be found here at Zap2it.
