Burton Lines Up New Directing Gigs

LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge) is rarely seen in front of the camera on Star Trek these days, but he's becoming one of the show's most prominent directors.

While speaking with Bonnie Britton at the Indianapolis Star recently, Burton said he was currently helming an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise and would shortly return to direct another instalment of show's third season. Burton has already directed "Extinction" and "Similitude" so far this year, though the latter episode could have been the one he was helming at the time of the interview.

But Burton's television credits aren't limited to the science fiction genre. He has signed up to direct an episode of the CBS drama JAG, which focuses on military lawyers and recently spawned its own spin-off, Navy CIS. With the family Christmas movie Blizzard in the can, Burton is planning to direct another (currently unknown) feature film.

Asked if he had any acting projects lined up, Burton said: "I just finished an episode of Boomtown as an actor and will probably direct an episode of that later this season." But he was tight-lipped about the nature of his Boomtown character. "I can't tell you. That would give it all away," Burton said.

However, the actor's episodes of Boomtown might never make it to air, after the NBC network placed the series on hiatus only two episodes into its second season. Anthony Montgomery (Travis Mayweather) was scheduled to appear in episode three, "Wannabe", before the series was pulled due to low ratings. Fans of the show have launched a campaign to ensure Boomtown stays on the air.

The complete interview can be found here at the Indianapolis Star. Thanks to Sherri for this!
