Details of the upcoming Star Trek original series manga comic and a first look at the cover are now online.

The anthology of stories, scheduled to be released in 2006, contains "four all new stories including the origin of a major Next Generation villain", according to Cinescape, which published a piece of artwork showing Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Sulu and the Enterprise.

Cinescape also listed the planned stories for the 40th anniversary comic, which is being produced by Tokyopop. "Anything But Alone" (at one time rumoured to be the title of the entire anthology) is written by Joshua Ortega and illustrated by Gregory Giovanni Johnson. "Oban" is written by Jim Alexander and illustrated by Michael J. Shelfer. "'Til Death..." is written by Mike W. Barr and illustrated by Jeong Mo Yang. "Orphans" is written by Rob Tokar and illustrated by EJ Su, and "Side Effects" is written by Chris Dowes and illustrated by Makoto Nakatsuka .

The manga comic was first announced in 2004 (story). Ortega said in an interview last year that science fiction fans who are not particularly Star Trek fans should enjoy the manga: "I think anyone who enjoys space or SF stories will be able to pick it up and enjoy it. At the same time, between the research I did for the story and my fondness for the Original Series, I think hardcore fans are really gonna dig the story."

The original news item and cover image are here. The comic may be preordered from Amazon.com.
