Managing editor Larry Nemecek discussed the future of Star Trek Communicator magazine and the official fan club, promising, "When we get back in print, with our new souped-up website, even with the time lag - we WILL get to all those big stories [we missed] and give them their due."

Nemecek, who had announced at the big convention in Las Vegas last summer that he expected the magazine to return imminently (story), said that the new CBS Corp. was treating Star Trek "fine, just slower than I'd like" in terms of reviving the franchise. "Our hands-on people are still the same good people. CBS kept them. Good sign," he added in a chat at TrekUnited.

Though he joked that "my editing chores have been a bit slow lately", Nemecek said that he has been working on a DVD project and editing a local industry trade magazine, plus writing columns for the UK Star Trek magazine. 2006, Star Trek's 40th anniversary year, "hopefully will be a lot of fun" with new projects in the works, he noted, though he said that he could not discuss what was in the planning stages yet.

Nemecek hoped to announce "a revamped fan club, store, and totally loaded website" by March. He said there were discussions of incorporating fan fiction "as long as it didn't cross what Pocket Books does with Strange New Worlds" and with working in fan film production, saying that New Voyages, Exeter and Hidden Frontier have "really raised the bar and are a lot of fun" But he thought that it would be at least three years before there was a new Star Trek film or series from CBS or Paramount.
