Rene Auberjonois Dropped From 'Boston Legal'

After three seasons of playing Paul Lewiston on ABC's Boston Legal, René Auberjonois (Odo) will no longer be a regular on the show next season.

The New York Daily News reported Auberjonois was being let go along with fellow cast members Mark Valley, Julie Bowen and Constance Zimmer. "It's an effort to maintain the freshness of the show," a spokesperson for the show said. William Shatner will remain on the show in his role as Denny Crane, as will his co-stars James Spader and Candice Bergen.

In order to replace the four departing cast members, ABC announced John Larroquette will join the show as Carl Sack, a senior partner from the New York offices of Boston Legal's law firm who is transfered to Boston. Larroquette already worked with Shatner before on Star Trek III: The Search For Spock, in which he played the Klingon Maltz.

Although Auberjonois will no longer be part of the regular cast next season, there is a possibility he will return as a guest star in the future. Previously, Lake Bell was also dropped from the regular cast, but she's already returned a few times to the show in a guest role.
