Hello World!

I should have guessed that the temperature was dropping when I started getting sick again, but it still took me until Monday to start wearing a jumper.

Australian weather is so deceptive; it always looks nice and sunny outside, but 10 minutes after you've left the house, the wind suddenly hits and your shorts and t-shirt suddenly seem woeful protection against the elements.

One of the benefits of wearing the jumper was that I didn't freeze to death in possibly the coldest place on Earth after the Arctic Circle - my Monday morning Latin classroom. Since the rooms in the actual Classics department resemble broom-cupboards rather than classrooms and aren't useful for teaching more than about 2 people at a time (okay, that's a slight exaggeration - 10 people), we are usually allocated rooms graciously offered in other buildings. Like the Engineering building. Or the Mineral Sciences building. Or that freezing room at the bottom of the Architecture building.

With all these supposedly intelligent people floating around, no one seems to be able to work out how to turn the air conditioning off. I mean, even the Romans had hypocausts.

Trek Two Years Ago

  • DS9 TV Guide Covers
Just like those released by TV Guide to celebrate the Voyager finale, two years ago they also released a series of covers as a tribute to Deep Space Nine. The actual articles in the magazine contained details of the series finale, including the last filmed scene, which took place in Vic Fontaine's lounge.

  • John de Lancie Chat Transcript
John de Lancie (Q) participated in a live chat at the Star Trek Continuum, as the official site was then known. In the chat, de Lancie revealed that the password to the Q Continuum was "Swordfish," and that people have followed him into the women's restroom to take photos of him.

  • Hello World!
One of the more amusing manifestations of an 'Inside Source' made itself known to Christian two years ago today. The 'source' claimed that Series V would be set 200 years from now and star Leonardo DiCaprio as the Captain. Of course, those who didn't twig then that it was just some guy or girl having fun with their Hotmail account, should know by now that Scott Bakula will be playing the Captain in the next series.

Happy Birthday!

Happy 60th Birthday to Paul Winfield, who played Captain Terrell in 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan' and Darmok in TNG's 'Darmok.'
