"Bittersweet" has certainly become the buzzword of the moment. Bryan Fuller, former Voyager Co-Producer, echoed the thoughts of cast and crew alike. "It's bittersweet - I think that's the best word for it," he said.

"It was my first job as a professional writer in Hollywood, so I feel very blessed that I was able to see it through to the end, and I'm also creatively looking for a change," Fuller told StarTrek.com.

Although he was asked by Brannon Braga to join the Enterprise writing staff (story), he turned the offer down to pursue other avenues. But he did offer some advice to the show's scribes. "So have fun, good god, I think that's the most important thing," he said. "You're part of television history in one of the most popular television shows that we've seen grace our television sets."

He also told the writers not to rely on the traditional Trekkian cliches. "Don't do anything we've already done, really challenge yourselves to not use transporters to get your heroes out of a bind at the last minute," he said. "If you cannot write shields at whatever percent, try not to, because the line's been written a lot of times."

The writer, who penned his first script, 'The Raven,' in season four, says that his time on Voyager was definitely a learning experience. "It feels like a high school graduation for me," he said. "Just like going on to new experiences, because it was - I spent the last 4 years in school - it was my first writing job. So I really felt it was an education as well as a professional experience."

Fuller was especially proud of the variety of stories that Voyager produced over its seven year run. He reflected on episodes which ranged "from balls-out comedies like 'Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy' and more horror-orientated stories [such as] 'Barge of the Dead,' and 'Equinox' was a great thriller. There's a variety of stories that we told within the science-fiction milieu, so I'm really proud of that."

Now that Voyager is over, what does Fuller plan to do with the experience he gained working on the show? "Right now, I'm working on a spec. pilot - we'll see what happens with that. I plan on using that to try and get out and get a job on another show," he said. "I loved what I was able to contribute to the Star Trek mythology, but I'm also really excited about doing something new."
