George Takei (Hikaru Sulu) will appear in an upcoming episode of the new original Sci-Fi Channel series The Chronicle, playing a Chinese immigrant.

The Chronicle is a new one-hour series that tells the adventures of former Pullitzer Prize-winning journalist Tucker Burns, who joins the staff of one of the world's least reputable tabloids: the titular Chronicle. At the paper, Burns and his colleagues Wes Freewald, Grace Hall and Donald Stern investigate paranormal phenomena.

The series will debut on the Sci-Fi Channel on Saturday the 14th of July, at 9:00pm. Takei's episode, 'Here There Be Dragons,' will air two weeks later. The Original Series actor will take on the role of Mr. Shen, the father of a young Chinese woman.

On his official web site, Takei wrote a very positive account of his experiences shooting the episodes. "[My role] was that of a Chinese immigrant father whose daughter, it is suspected, might be involved with a dragon inhabiting the sewers of Chinatown," wrote Takei. "The drama is played with straight-faced seriousness. I thought it might be fun. [...] The regulars on Chronicle, Chad Willett, Rena Sofer and Reno Wilson are bright, talented and personable young performers and it was a pleasure working with them."

More information on Chronicle can be found on the series' official web site, while Takei's full account of filming can be found here.
