Paramount Home Entertainment has plans to rerelease the Star Trek series on DVD in Region 2 in slim-line budget packs.

The United Federation of Planets web site reports that Paramount Home Entertainment UK plans a new series of DVD releases for 2006 as part of its 40th anniversary celebration of Star Trek. Beginning with Star Trek: The Next Generation, each series will be repackaged and released season-by-season in a slender pack with no extras, only the episodes.

The first re-release, on May 1st, will reportedly be priced at £34.99, a significant reduction from the £84.99 that previous sets cost. Themed sets will also likely be released in Region 2 as they have in Region 1, including the Borg, time travel and Q "Fan Collective" box sets.

However, Star Trek: The Animated Series has been withdrawn for the time being. A Paramount spokesperson who gave no reason for the delay said that it was "as disappointing for us as I'm sure the news will be for fans." No later date for that release has been announced.

The Next Generation slim-line sets are already available for pre-order at Amazon.co.uk. Here are season one, season two, season three, season four, season five, season six and season seven.
